My Progress journal 2017

Here is my progress I have made this year in Maths, basic facts, reading, writing and spelling. I think I have made good progress in writing because I used to be on 3p and now I'm on 3a. I am so proud of myself.

Robots Poem

Yesterday we had a choice of three robots to sketch. The three choices were Dash, Bee bot and a see through robot that glows! I chose Dash. We also had to write a poem about the robot we sketched. Here is my sketch of Dash and my poem :

Pet Day

Today is Pet Day. I made a Vaseline saucer. I made my Vaseline saucer out of red, pink and purple petals. I also used small green leaves as well. Some of the Vaseline saucers are going to the Waimate North Show. For Pet Day I bought two button quail, one is a male and the other is a male.  They got third place.
Later in the day we did an animal parade. I walked my quails inside the ring with other birds. My quails names are Quirky and Loretta.   Here is my Vaseline saucer.

Swim Safe

Tracey from water safe told us the 5 rules to keep safe in the water. The 5 rules were Never swim alone, Check the weather, Your safety first, If in doubt - stay out and the last rule was Tell someone where you are going.

Garden to Table

This term we are doing Garden to Table. We have done it for two weeks. I was in the kitchen for the first week and I was in the garden for the second week. For the people in the kitchen they have to cook food for the people in the garden. There are two sessions, one in the morning and one after play. I was in the one after play for both weeks. We cooked herb scones, salad, veges sticks that were celery and carrots. We also cooked baguette, bread and dips. Our dips were guacamole and hummus. The second week I was in the garden but it was raining so I planted seeds in little pots so they can grow to became big plants for the kitchen people to use for the food. I am in the red radishes and inside of the red radishes are 3 little groups. We got to choose our group name my group name is the Cooking and Garden stars. A bunch of peanuts

This week I read a story called A Bunch of Peanuts. I made a diagram to show the process of harvesting them.

Hot Air Balloon Art

For art we created Hot Air Balloons.  We used pastel for the background. We used dye and black PVA glue for the balloon. We weaved the basket. My favourite part was the black PVA.

Maths Strategy

Here is a strategy I have learnt and am good at. I have made a video using Screencastify to show how to work it out.

Skittles

In our Skittles writing we were learning how to get to rubric 4 by adding Hook, Appropriate adjectives, adverbs, powerful verbs, smiles, metaphors and alliteration. I need to do this so that the person reading my writing gets a clear picture in their mind. I think I'm doing well because I have used a little personification, adverbs, similes and adjectives. I need to work on using metaphors.

Reflecting on my Learning

Today I had a conference with my teacher. We discussed my learning. I have reflected on my learning so far this year. Here are my reflections.

Collaborative Bird Wings

We made a Collaborative bird for Up, Up and Away. We each made a feather for our birds wings.
How we made our feather:
First we traced around a paper feather.
Secondly we then draw patterns on our feather with chalk.
Lastly we dyed our feather. We had to choose complimentary colours.

Measurement

For Maths we have been learning about measurement. So I made a DLO (digital learning object). I created one to explain Area and Perimeter. Here is a video I made.

Kite

Yesterday we made kites out of dry flax sticks and plastic bags. My kite was good at flying and it didn't break.

Science Fair

We have been learning to complete Science Investigations. We learnt about the Scientific Method. We will share our learning at our school Science Fair.

Dr.Seuss

Today at school we had to dress up as a Dr. Seuss character. I dressed up as the baby duck in the Lorax. We choose a quote that related to Dr.Seuss and we had to illustrate it.  Here is my quote...

Paper Spinner

We made paper spinners for Maths. We had to use our fractions and shape knowledge to help us fold our spinner.  We decorated our spinner with pattern and colours. We battled our spinners with a friend. My spinner looked pretty when it spun.

Silly Sentneces

I have been learning how to write good sentences correctly. A sentences is something that tells you information on what you want the reader to learn.
A simple sentences needs a Subject, verb, full stop and capital letter. We wrote silly sentences. We chose our favourite sentence and made a picture to go with it.

Here is a piece of writing about my holiday...

Lego Elves Evil Dragon!

Oh my god I’m so excited. I’m  finally getting the Lego elves evil dragon.

I was so excited because I was getting the lego elves evil dragon for this season. There the long box stood on the highest self in The Warehouse. The good thing was that all the Lego was 20 dollars less! Once we got the lego set we raced to the counter. Once we bought the long skinny Lego set we zoomed to the car and jumped in. Beeb beeb beeb! The long dark green car reversed.

A few minutes later we arrived at our long white house. I jumped out with excitement and ran to the doorstep rushing into the house. “No time to waste” I  shouted running into my bedroom.

“Rip rip rip!!” I sighed opening the lego box there were 2 bags and one book to build it. Step by step I built it up. It looked amazing.

Once I was finished I made it into flying mode. I flew it all the way to Braeden’s room. He got Aira’s Airship. He was finished as well. We flew our Lego out to the playroom and I grabbed my little blue water dragon and flew it outside in the bright warm sunny sun. It was like a airplane it flew and flew into the sky. “Ronan, Braeden do you want a cold chocolate?” shouted Lisa.  “Yes please,” Braeden and I shouted.

In The Beginning

In the beginning there was only darkest. Because Papatuanuku and Ranginui were together. Papa had sons named Tumatuenga, Tawhirimatea, Tane Mahuta, Rongo, Tangaroa and Haumia. They were the gods sons. They mini gods were tired of living in there dark cramped space so Tumatuenga wanted to kill his parents but the other mini gods suggested to separate the parents. Tawhirimatea wasn't happy to separate their parents. First Tangaroa tried but he could not push Rangi. Next was Haumia's turn but he couldn't do it. Then Rongo tried but he couldn't do it. Then Tumatauenga tried but he couldn't do it. Next Tawhirimatea tried but he didn't want to do it. Finally Tane Mahuta tried but he didn't do it. Then his brothers had an idea. Tane lay on his back and used his legs to push and he boosted Rangi into the sky.

We then got to do activities on the topic. I choose dance and drama I then budded up with Leonor and Denym. WE made mask's to do our play. Here are our masks.

Handwriting

I need to work on making sure my letters sit on the line.
I am good at my form of my letters and correct height and my work is neat and tidy and it is correctly set out.

Easter bunny art

We did marbling for our backgrounds for our Easter bunnies to go on. We used sharpie to make cool patterns and we put glasses on. We then cut our bunnies into parts and glued them onto our colourful backgrounds and then they were ready. Here is my bunny.

Triathlon writing

Ohaeawai School Triathlon

“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!” My heart beat as Mrs Gardiner shouted out it’s Year 3 & 4 up next at the triathlon. The triathlon was on Friday at school on one nice summers day. “What a beautiful day for the triathlon.” “Hurry up Year 3 & 4,” Mrs Gardiner shouted out loud like an angry lion roaring through the jungle. Once we were all there with Mrs Gardiner she led us to the school court which was overgrown. We waited for a little while. Suddenly a voice shouted, “can we please have Year 3 & 4 to the library court area.” Once we were there Mrs Stevenson told us can I please have year 3 boys and girls to the pool. Splash, the year 3 girls dove like penguins into the high crystal clear water. 15 minutes later it was Year 4 boys. We got to the crystal clear blue pool and I looked down. “3...2...1 go,” Mrs H yelled to our ears. Splash! I dove into the freezing water. I shivered like crazy but I knew I had to keep going. Once I got to the end of the pool the water brang me up onto the top of the pool. After I had done 2 lengths of the freezing evil pool I ran like a cheetah to find my precious helmet amoung the other helmets. Once I did I ran to grab a bike. I started to bike and bike and bike. Finally I got to the old smelly street which was Mr Lawrence’s driveway. “Wow” I screamed as I zoomed down the bumpy rusty street. “Heave ho, heave ho,” I sighed as I pushed and pushed and pushed until I finally reached the end of the rusty street and onto the lush green field. “Yes yes yes!” I shouted out loud. I was on my way to the huge grey rock. I finally finished the bike. Next up was running the final thing to do. Run, run, run, run! I ran to the seat to drop my helmet off. Suddenly I started to run. I could hear voices cheering for me like I was day dreaming. But I knew I had to keep going. So I ran and ran and ran. Bang, crash, bang! I rolled down the bumpy hill like a flow of crystal clear water. Suddenly I got to a steep hill so I ran and ran with all my power and got to the top of the hill. I sprinted to the finish line and shouted, “I did it!” After the triathlon I felt proud, amazed and relieved. Once I came back from doing the triathlon I had a nice cool milk - perfect.

Project Energise

"Yah," Room 1 screamed as everyone ran to the nice mown field. Once room 1 was settled down Matua Bodean told us we were going to play some co-operative games. The first game was trying to pass the hula hoop around a group. Once Matua Bodean explained the game to us he told us to get into groups. When we were in our groups we got a hula hoop. Denym, Brooke, Imogen and I started to pass the bright yellow hula hoop around and got 8 seconds in total. The next game was about team work.We had to get everyone from one side to the other side. There was 4 groups 2 of the groups came tie.
