Mixed - Ability Maths

Kia ora,

This term we have been doing mixed - ability maths groups. The purpose was to help other kids learn different strategies for maths. We had to use different strategies to work out different problems.
How I feel about? I don't mind working in a group because I get to learn about how different people solve maths problems.
What I have enjoyed? I have enjoyed working with my group because they are always happy and I help them learn new strategies for maths. I also like it because they teach me their ways they use to solve problems like times tables and skip counting.
What I have found difficult? I found it tricky to work with my group because they sometimes are unfocused and are chatting to their friends. I also find it hard to work with my group because they ignore me or start singing and stop listening to my working out.
What can I do to change my negative thinking?
Give the pencil more often to my group member's and try to ask them more questions to get them to listen.

  1. Ronan, I really liked reading your reflections about mixed ability maths. You have come up with some really good ideas to help your group work better together. I look forward to hearing how the changes are helping your group this term. Kai pai

  2. Hey Roro - I think you need more than just pencils to entice your group members to get involved. Perhaps try baby chickens.....
